TCW Technologies Announces Approval of an STC-AML for its Integrated Battery Back-up System (IBBS)

TCW Technologies is pleased to announce the issuance of a Supplemental Type Certification (STC) under an extensive Approved Model List (AML) for its Integrated Battery Back-up System (IBBS).   This STC-AML allows for the installation of the IBBS in nearly 100 of the most popular models of GA aircraft from Piper, Cessna, Mooney, Beechcraft, and Grumman.

TCW’s Integrated Battery Back-up System (IBBS) provides critical back-up power for EFIS, GPS Navigators, Autopilots and Engine Monitoring Systems utilized in today’s modern instrument panels.  The patented technology within the IBBS system provides power to keep these systems active during electrical system failures, as well as during engine starting.  The IBBS system is suitable and approved for use with equipment such as Garmin’s G3X series of flight displays, Garmin’s GNS, GTN, GNC and GNX series navigators as well as Avidyne’s IFD series of navigators.

The IBBS is available in three FAA approved models that provide an engineered solution for critical back-up power to electrically dependent general aviation aircraft.  Integral to the IBBS is a lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack and a matched charging system that ensures the battery is properly charged and maintained.  The system automatically operates to provide a stable source of output power during both normal and emergency operations.  The IBBS system connects to the standard aircraft power bus and provides clean and reliable power to the connected equipment.

The FAA approved models of the IBBS have been tested to TSO-C179(a), TSO-C179(b), and DO-160, and are available for 12 volt and 24 volt applications.

With more than 8,000 installations in experimental aircraft over the past 10 years, the IBBS system has a demonstrated track record of providing safe and reliable back-up power to EFIS, GPS Navigators, Engine Monitors, Autopilots and Electronic Ignitions systems.   This important capability is now available for many of the most popular GA aircraft.
