The milestone came as a collaborative effort between the company and the airport management’s leadership.
High Flying Hangars has won lease approval on its forthcoming development at the Frederick Municipal Airport in Maryland (KFDK). The lease has been signed by Frederick City Mayor Michael O’Connor and plans are already moving forward on the site.
The need for hangars in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area continues to outpace supply, and High Flying Hangars will meet this demand in part with the first new hangar construction on the Frederick airport in more than 20 years.
Frederick Municipal Airport Manager Andrew Moore welcomes the project and its benefits to the community at large. “The airport management team is excited to welcome High Flying Hangars to start a critical project to address the lengthy waitlist at FDK, providing new hangar space for existing as well as new tenants. We see that not only are they answering current needs by building but also attracting residents to our community and to the City of Frederick, growing economic activity as a result of these new aviation users.”
Kenny Hinkes, CEO of High Flying Hangars, celebrates the effort behind the progress at Frederick. “We’ve had a great response from the market in Frederick with early deposits, so it’s particularly gratifying to achieve this milestone, which will allow us to move forward with the development. Kudos to Andrew Moore and the leadership at Frederick Municipal Airport for recognizing the benefit to the aviation community—and the city of Frederick and the DC Metro region—that the site will bring.”
The 11.45-acre development will be located at midfield within the airport layout and will be constructed in two phases, with 44 hangars to be built in Phase 1, and as many as 50 hangars planned for Phase 2. The Hangar Club clubhouse forms a key part of the Phase 1 build. Permitting is in process and soil testing began the week of September 29.
